Shaolin Do - Frauds of a Feather

SHAOLIN DO........Faux Kung Fu of Sin Kwang The

As a traditional stylist of Hung Sing Choy Lee Fut kung fu who has studied the system for more than 30 years now I am coming to understand why my elders didn't want their kung fu to leave the confines of San Francisco's Chinatown.  In the beginning of my kung fu career I loved it so much that I was the schools primary recruiter.  I didn't understand anything that came before my arrival or I would still keep our system hidden within the shadows of the Chinese community. They warned me, confronted me, and even chastised me because I was unintentionally breaking the norm of that time.  I just didn't view the world as they viewed it, and that was my bad.  I had to learn the hard way.

In authentic Chinese Martial Arts I grew up believing in honor and in our community no one stole kung fu from other styles.  Developing your system to include newer forms is one thing, it was basically unheard of to outright steal another style's material.  Much of that can be attributed to the repercussions which could have grave consequences.

To make a long story short, I came across a video of a Shaolin Five Animal form on youtube.  The person performing this form is known today as "Jake Mace" aka Jacob Rydberg.  His video was an attempt at instruction of this form.  Once he began his form I KNEW IMMEDIATELY what form he was trying to teach because it EXCLUSIVELY belonged to the Hung Sing Kwoon which is America's very first kung fu school "OFFICIALLY" founded in 1939 by Professor Lau Bun.

So, I politely sent Jake Mace - who I had no idea was hiding behind the Mace surname to disguise his true name of Jacob Ryberg - a message asking him where he learned this form.  He replied that he learned it from the Shaolin Do school when he was a student there.  Then I asked him where did his teacher learn it from because I knew no one else had this specific form.  His response was that he learned it in China. I called his bluff and he purposely failed to reply to me when I asked him to tell me the names of China teachers that taught this form. His reluctance to answer that question pissed me off because I can't stand dishonest people.

I had never dealt with dirty classless dishonest people Jake before so i did a little searching.  Prior to this experience I had no idea what a Shaolin Do was but found out more than i cared to know.  I came to learn that the founder of Shaolin Do was a man named Sin Kwang The'  and that Jake was involved with a court case against him.  In the proceedings of that case it turns out that Sin Kwang The admitted to making up most of the material he was teaching.  He gave it a false history with false masters including one who was nothing more than a Circus Attraction.  In other words, Sin Kwang The was pretending to be a true master of kung fu.   In the court proceedings he is quoted as saying "In connection with my work, I developed my own system of Shaolin which is known as Shaolin Do".

Furthermore, Sin Kwang The also states in the court proceedings " The exercises and movements and the order they are to be performed was specifically selected by me".  What he is saying is basically he takes bits and pieces from other forms and arranges them to his liking then claims it is an authentic shaolin form.  Unbeknownst to his unsuspecting students, he's been playing them for the money.

Jake Mace learned from one of Sin Kwang The's students by the name of Soard who got himself charged with sexual assault on some of his students (http://www.dailycamera.com/news/ci_13423591) including jakes girl friend at the time.  He was then passed on the Garry Mullins and someone else.  Jake Mace is such a disrespectful, untrustworthy, THIEF that learned well from his teachers.  what do i mean?  Well, even after begging to be allowed to teach Sin Kwang The's made up system of Shaolin Do and later had it copy written, JAKE defied him and basically told him "FUCK YOU, I'M STEALING YOUR MATERIAL AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP ME".   If you don't believe ME (the Author) do a google search on Sin Kwang The vs Jacob Rydberg and you will see for yourself.

Jake Mace also admittedly watched a IP MAN movie then came home, bought a wing chun wooden dummy,  and now swears he is a teacher of Wing Chun. He continues to teach Shaolin Do's fake version of Hung Gar and other stolen styles. Jake the FAKE is a PRIME EXAMPLE of what kind of teacher you should NEVER BE.   Frauds like this NEED to be dealt with in a severe fashion.

SO TO GET BACK TO ME POINT FOR THIS ARTICLE:   Let me make this extremely clear. The Shaolin Five Animal form that Jake Mace and SHAOLIN DO is incorrectly teaching is a CHEAP knock off of the Shaolin Five Animal form LEGITIMATELY taught at the American Hung Sing Kwoon head quartered in San Francisco under its current leader, GM Dino Salvatera.  As I already explain early on, this specific form is COMPLETELY EXCLUSIVE to the Hung Sing Kwoon and there are absolutely NO other hand forms in existence LEGITIMATELY similar to this one anywhere on the face of this planet.

SIN KWANG THE copied the techniques of the Shaolin Five Animal form of the Hung Sing Kwoon and made some modifications with the intention of hiding the truth.  Even with his modifications it is clear that he patterned his version of the form based off of our form.  In the Hung Sing Kwoon we never used the color poetry that GM Doc Fai Wong used in his book, but Jake the FAKE Mace uses the terminology without the knowledge that it was most likely invented by GM Doc Fai Wong.

This specific Shaolin Five Animal form is an especially rare hand form because it is a Northern Five Animal form containing the southern Five Animal hands.  It was rare in 1900 and remains as such in 2016. There is absolutely NO Shaolin Five Animal forms on the face of this Earth in existence then or now that "LEGITIMATELY" looks anywhere even remotely similar to this hand form. I openly challenge anyone anywhere to produce a legitimate chinese teacher with a legitimate lineage that has been around longer than the American Hung Sing Kwoon.  I have made this challenge many times before and till this day NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has come up with anything to dispute me.

In the past I have seen students online try to defend the Shaolin Do name even after learning that much of what they trained in was made up by Sin Kwang The.  Shaolin Do is ran like a cult and many of the students refuse to believe the truth.   On youtube so many authentic students and teachers have tried to inform the world that Jake the Fake Mace and Sin Kwang The were frauds. When asked who his teachers were Jake refuses to answer and makes a wild claim that he's learned martial arts longer than he really has. His level of arrogance is astounding as he claims to do things perfectly even tho he was never properly taught the right way.  He is ashamed to admit that he is a product of David Soard, Mullins and Grooms.  Why? who cares, really.

Lately, I have noticed someone who is a prime rider of Jakes bandwagon who has a youtube channel by the name of MrVidLuv is trying to stir shit up by claiming the Hung Sing Kwoon is lying about the Shaolin Five Animal Form.  But when asked to provide his PROOF we're met with dead air.  silence.  nothing.  Evidence of his silliness is found in his latest comments where he makes absolutely NO SENSE.  Here, read for yourself:  I'm so sick of people and their lies. There are several styles of Hung Gar which is actually an offshoot of Shaolin. There people who claim they're the only ones who can teach it or own the lineage lie to everyone.Want proof? I looked up a Hung Gar documentary on YouTube. They go straight to China, the origin, in the Hung family village and the REAL truth is told. In it they explain that one day they were training in public and someone asked what style it was and the guys grandfather said "Hung Gar"-NOT Hung Sing or Kuen or anything else. He goes on to explain that the term Hung "Sing" was used when his grandfather had a school in his youth, in China, long ago. He was very explicit in this. So that ends these people's claims. There are also DVDs on the style and that particular form too. There's a few VCDs straight from China as well. So to say "only we own it" is just childish nonsense. Plus, I heard the real reason these people at the Hung Sing school are mad is because Shaolin knows what they consider their highest form. Get over it already! The documentary then goes on to say there's controversy as to whether it's even a real martial art or a spin off from Chinese folklore! Many practitioners are in disagreance about THAT.  As for Thé making up his entire Shaolin system-NO. I read the deposition unlike all these lazy idiots who are nothing but knee jerk trash talkers. GM Thé admits to making up 30 forms. That's pretty remarkable when you think about it.So enough already, go cry somewhere else because no one wants to hear this nonsense anymore.

In the paragraph above I highlighted the areas that need special attention. First, I have no Idea why this IDIOT is trying to link Hung Sing with Hung Gar.  One is a school, the other is a style.  What the literal EFF!!!  Somehow that sucka thinks because he doesn't know the difference ends the argument that Shaolin Do ripped off the Hung Sing Kwoon for its Shaolin Five Animal form.  I don't know what this idiotic fool is trying to say.

2ndly, Shaolin Do students and teachers seem to be very adept with having many many VCD's and Youtube video's to steal from and claim as their own.

3rdly, SHAOLIN DO is a system created by Sin Kwang The who like i stated above  "" The exercises and movements and the order they are to be performed was specifically selected by me".  why would anyone teach what was specifically selected   instead of teaching students what was allegedly taught to him?  was he keeping the real kung fu for himself and only teaching what he felt like teaching to unsuspecting students who had no idea whether or not he was fooling them?

To conclude, Sin Kwang The is a fraud who trained people to perpetuate his fraudulism.  Jake Mace is a product of Sin Kwang The 's cult.  Only the mentally challenged are unable to see the difference between real kung fu and what Sin Kwang The and Jake Mace is putting out there to the public.  Jake lies about his teachers, his background, what styles he learned, and even his own surname.  How Jake has been able to attract so many followers is a mind boggler.  His fake fu is weak and will end up getting someone injured if they tried to use his "DEADLY TECHNIQUES".
Jake, you should never take about Martial Virtue while being a snake oil salesman.  You cannot comment on Martial Virtue if you don't possess any. You Fraud!!!!

    1. I also was a student at a Shaolin Do school for a couple of years. Then I saw that it sure is a cult. Loyalty is demanded, they work to integrate you even into social family. Then I learned of the dirtiest dirt about them. They do have a rediculously low monthly fee, but they make up for that with many other sales ventures. If you wish to cross train in other styles, they will deeply frown upon that. If you wish to socialize with other members of other schools, they frown upon that too. Red flags galore!

After studying with a couple of true Lineage Holding Teachers, I can also vouch for the lack of full traditional content. There are quite a few very talented Martial Artists who study their system, but idI bet they would be a lot better under a true Lineage Holder.

    1. Shaolin-Do is cringe, fake, and basically an infestation.

I had a chance to join a Shaolin-Do studio a good while back that was real close to me. I was really put off by their seediness and didn't go beyond the free first class.

I decides to make the drive to Cinci and join the Tien Shan Pai school there. So glad I did.

If you do some form of modernized Kung Fu, then watch forms done by Warrior Monks, you will be able to guage some basic level of lineage.

Practicing an at least somewhat useful form of Kung Fu form- then watching the silly sh** you see these "Shaolin-Do" people doing. What are they even trying to do? It's sad that they don't realize how silly they look.

Why are they in Gi's? It's a nightmare. What a sad waste of time

They will say their methods are "too lethal" for competition but their business model is just to churn out a bunch of goofy looking belts. They are more patched than Biker Clubs

This fraud needs national media attention. These people are entrusting their children to these jackals. It's dangerous and sad

  3. I studied that crap at a YMCA here in Nashville.Sin kwang Te was looking at the ceiling while we were testing for our belts. When I tried to use that crap in a real fight it was a complete disaster. kwang Te is the creflo dollar of kung fu and I bet a little girl could kick his ass.

  4. GM The' is a man of the highest moral character. You are whining about a form "Oh, they use a form similar to ours" How do you scratch your ass because I want to make a sure that I'm not stealing your exclusive techniques. If someone one was going to steal a form it ain't going to be from some rinky dink outfit like Hung Sing or maybe that's the brilliance of it

  5. It's a form I am sure there are lots of similar forms in various styles. Look at the forms of Shotokan and Tae kwon do very similar. It doesn't imply theft Some finish with a pinch others use a counterclockwise swirl. No reason to get feathers ruffled over a similar form. The form was published in books so it's not like some ancient secret or something.

My issue though is knowing how crooked some people can be, even if they are good people in person money can change whats is considered wrong into a right. Where can i go in the scottsdale az area that teaches true shaolin.

    6. He very well could have learned the forms online. That only proves him to be a fraud even more. He claims to have learned his forms and arts from "real Chinese masters of Chinese martial arts from China."
The fact is, he didn't. The man learned from Sin Kwang The'. A man who created Shaolin-Do with his brother Hiang Kwang The'. Shaolin-Do is Shaolin-Do; a Kuntao system. It is NOT Hung Sing Choy Lay Fut, it is NOT Taijiquan, it is NOT 7 Star Praying Mantis.

"But Jake could have learned from someone else." Maybe, but why hasn't he told us who those people were when asked? The lawsuit against Jake only prevents him from mentioning Sin Kwang The', Shao lin Arts, Shaolin-Do, Sin The' Karate, and Shaolin-Do Karate. It does not prevent him from mentioning his "real Chinese masters from China" or any other non-Shaolin-Do teacher he claims to have learned from.

      Jake is a liar.

I studied and later instructed at the Chinese shaoLin center in San Jose, Ca in the early 90’s. I met and trained with Master Sin Te and the Soards numerous times and reached the level of 2nd black belt.
I completely agree with the author, the style is a fraud. I studied authentic Yin Fu Baguaquan in Golden Gate Park for 10 years after leaving the Shao Lin Center. Sam Louie who was a disciple of Lau Bun’s was one of my friends that I trained by in the park for years. He often gave me advice that was Infinitely more helpful than anything I ever heard at the Chinese shao lin center. I would have thought with all the information that is available on the internet that all of their would have closed by now?

  17. kung fu nerd rage? to make a whole website dedicated to this you must be. I get you value your history, since your from that area, you must have know bruce lee. Sifu lee did that same thing the' did minus the big story, he created a style from things he learned and saw from other styles. If he liked it and it worked, it went into jkd. You live in and information age and anything you don't keep behind closed doors with no cameras, and close knit student is going to wind up on the net with a vlog. If you really wanted to keep your form in your school maybe you should be mad at where sin the got it from, than the' himself. I took shaolin do among other arts, and I know he a scam artist business wise, but private students got taught the non mcdojo stuff and rest didn't. martial art comuinty focuses to much on who my master ect.., male egocentric ima bad ass, and not will it help me defend myself. Anything i ever learn from any school that i didn't think worked, i tossed it out the door like bruce. I learned your from privately from the when he first got it for his movie. i know he changed it 5 times after that so it was different. Even at that there was only handful of moves that were street worthy for anyone to use mostly the chi na and uppercut punches. rest were fancy kicks, that will get you hurt. My point is no has the ultimate martial art, no one info is sacred in today's internet age, unless your a back alley school with your own cult. Don't get mad at my word try looking at them like constructive criticims, adapt overcome and drive on. I know if your a chinese native history and face mean alot, but if your truly legit teacher you should be above this petty website and not nerd raging and turn out better students than the's and let be your future linage and not be the one who cried over a form. The high is lowered and low is raised...

    1. No, he isn't. he is claiming other's things. If he were out there admitting to doing his own thing it would be different. As it stands, the man is a liar.

Why do people dislike or even hate Jake Mace?
      1) He presents Shaolin-Do as Xingyi, HuaQuan, Choy Li Fut, and the other arts Shaolin-Do took it's forms from.

      2) He attacks those who actually do said forms and any feedback they may give, positive or negative. Whether they said, "this doesn't look right," "this is fake," or even constructive critisicm like, "you're forgetting to use the Xingyi shift step here [time stamp.]"

      3) Whenever someone asks him where he learned something he attacks them with sarcasm or flat out rudeness. If not, then he deletes the question. And if someone makes a video asking, he has the video pulled then makes a video himself to attack the person as a hater (generally on his gardening channel.)

      4) He claims people who died 1800 years ago taught him his QiGong.

      5) He claims arts he never studied, such as Wing Chun. Even his students were at a loss when he started teaching it. And many of his students actually did Wing Chun and called him out on it. His IRL school shut down shortly after.

      6) If you continue to make posts asking Jake to answer things, whether politely or lightly rude, suddenly you have his Vegan Athlete account and sock accounts with Jake's IP attacking you. Often times the sock account forgets they are a sock account and answer as Jake Mace.

      Delete
    2. 7) When other CMA ask him to collaborate, he accuses them of trying to beat him up, call them hater trolls, call them liars, pretend to not know who they are, or duck out of it by talking about how his charities are better(if the collab was for charity) while also plugging his gofundme.

      8) He attacks those who really study systems. Calls them liars and states their lineage isn't real. Citing that his "grandmaster" was the real grandmaster of Shaolin, and that being proof that [Art] lineage is fake. Such as calling the Cai family line of HuaQuan (The only lineage) fake. But the kicker is, HuaQuan is a Taoist Northern Fist style. Shaolin is Buddhist.
Simultaneously, he states he has no lineage and learned 5 animals in travels but refuses to name those teachers.

      9) Claims to have "authentic Chinese teachers in authentic Chinese martial arts in China that I still study with when I travel to China." In this case, he said he studied TaijiQuan in Beijing "a few months ago" from the time of that livestream. But when two Chinese people who were in Beijing asked him where, as they wanted to trace his footsteps, he backpedaled quickly and stated "I no longer have a relationship with my teachers because the teacher and I had a disagreement and I was sued. You can read about that on my blog LearnFromJakeMace Dot Com. I don't want to help them because they are bad people and I don't want to send business to them. I just, I don't want to talk about it."
When that girl clarified, "no, I wasn't talking about Shaolin-Do, I was asking about the TaijiQuan you said you learned in China. [Timestamp]" Jake replied with, "that's a troll question. I'm not answering that."
Sounds like he was talking about Shaolin-Do to me. Tell me, where in China is Kentucky and Colorado?
Also, Kuntao is not Gung Fu. Kuntao traces itself to Mainland Chinese martial arts, but the two are practiced so differently. The major difference being the lack of forms in Kuntao (outside of the Dutch and Filipino versions.)

What can Jake Mace do to fix this?
      1) Tell us who his non-Shaolin-Do teachers are. Sin's cease and desist only prevents Jake from mentioning Shaolin-Do, Sin The Karate, Shao-Lin Arts, and Sin Kwang The. Nothing is stopping Jake from mentioning other Shaolin-Do members who may have taught him the other arts like he alludes to when asked and he answers(livestreams and his "why I wear a Karate Uniform" and "My Lineage" videos.) We know he knows this fact because he has had 4 other Shaolin-Do members on his channel multiple times. IE: Thad Wong, Matthew Lee, a few others.)

      2) He's already partially admitted he's only trained with Shaolin-Do people on his, "why do I wear a Karate Uniform" and "My lineage" videos. He couldn't fully say everything thanks to the cease and desist.
He could state he use to train with a teacher, was sued and can no longer mention that art, and is now teaching a modified form of that mixed with other stuff he's picked up on the way. (Such as TaijiQuan and QiGong from David-Dorian Ross.)

*)If he just told the truth, more than half of his "haters" would leave him alone. Sure, some attack his "street self defence" as foolish, but the overwhelming majority have an issue with the man lying. Claiming things he never studied.
You are always going to have people attacking the validity of a technique, whoever you are. But people only attack you for lying about lineage when you lie about it. Or are perceived as to be lying because users can only vet his studying one art (Shaolin-Do) and not any other art.

  20. I spent about four years training diligently with the Shaolin do academy here in Lexington. I've had some boxing and wrestling training and a fair amount of fist fights under my belt too, but for the most part my style boils down to being mostly shaolin-do. I currently spar with a sort of mixed bag of fighters on and off and after hearing the claims of fraud I was surprised how well my style held up. Regardless of if their forms/kata are stolen or fake, the kicks and punches they taught where real and my fundamentals have been solidified by that school. Furthermore I'd say their workout regiment was very intense. When I started boxing, my gym was impressed by the way I could keep up as soon as I joined. I found my body had more muscular endurance than actual power, though.

I don't really have much stake in this argument and seeing how livid you all get with each other over this I probably won't send another reply but I do want to say this: there aren't a lot of martial arts schools in Lexington that have the full contact sparring and adult audience shaolin-do has. Couple that with the longevity their school has had and I can see how someone can see this as a viable and competent school.

To the creator of this post I wish to say this: I understand that you are very upset do to what appears to be a stolen kata and it very well may be. I do, however, think your logic is flawed is saying that because the techniques look similar they must have stolen something. Furthermore, it's paradoxical that you may berate some of these commenters for their fervor for this, as you put it, cult when you yourself where so loyal to your own school that makes a claim that many schools have made (such as this one: https://peacefulwarriorphx.com/american-karate-history.html). This isn't me doubting your claim, merely hoping to help you polish and improve it.

Additionally, I find the chances of two schools independently founded, and Sin The somehow copying this style without being in San Fransisco and being a full time student at the time. Regarding your possible claim of him having stolen it via DVD or the internet would to say that these techniques would be intigrated into the systwm in sometime in the 90s. Even if it was on vhs or something similar it would require him to intergrate it as far is ten years after the original founding of his school. Again, I'm not denying you're claim, merely hoping to help you defend it by showing you potential claims.

I want you to leave you with this tidbit of knowledge. Maybe it's sagely, but more likely it is (or will be take as) pseudo-shaolin hullabaloo: is it so impossible that your style isn't the only one with this sort of technique? That's all I have to say.

    2. As a practitioner of both traditional and contemporary Wushu among other martial arts from since 1993 I can say that I have come across A LOT of schools that claim some sort of linage, and combine all sorts of things in order to appear credible.

It's easy to create exercises along with solo and partner routines and explore free sparring, all of these develop physical fitness. Anyone with a few years of basic to intermediate training experience and a focused head on their shoulders can do all of those and then package it all together and slap a kung fu or karate label on that package. (Ed parker did it.) (Come at me American Kenpo people!) It doesn't make it a bad thing, what makes it bad is deception, claiming a linage that does not exist.

If you simply tell people my name is Joe and this is my own unique style called Joe kune Do then all will be well,
chances are you may not get as much followers as you would like, as some people will think that you're just another crazed Mcdojo who makes shit up as you go along, and chances are they may be right, however the far worse looming shadow of being a liar and creating a fake linage.

I can't say for sure what shaolin Do is, based on my observation alone I would say that it reminds me of other styles which claim to be connected to some ancient Chinese linage yet hardly resemble anything practiced in China or Taiwan today.

the unfortunate thing about Chinese martial arts is that many traditions are so fragmented and some even lost, and therefore one can never say for sure.

  21. There is ABSOLUTELY no way two people came up with the same exact form independently. Especially when the SELF ADMITTING fraud "came up" with the form AFTER Doc-Fai Wong came up with the exact version Sin claims. Especially not when since owns the copy of the student manual that contains said form.
And no, you did not spar full contact. You are absolutely lying about that. If you have any martial skill, you didn't learn it studying Shaolin-Do. And seeing how much you stroke a fraudulent system, I doubt you have any martial skill.

    2. There is no need to pillow fort around liars and frauds. Me, Frank, and everyone else who has pointed out Shaolin-Do's fraudulence have done nothing but speak the truth. The truth is unyielding. You either bend to it's whill or you live a lie.

  22. That may be true but I don't think you understood the context of my reply. I was there for a while and I saw the ins and outs of the place. I'd be the first person to tell you not to go there. My mother's current boyfriend had his last wife cheat on him with a master there and they caste him out. They told me stories of such extravagance that even when I was there in my youth I had doubts. I've been gone from Shaolin do for maybe 5 years now and have no intentions of returning. I'm on your side, I don't like what these people are doing.

What I was trying to accomplish was giving you an idea of how they get away with fraud, theft and balligernce. What you referred to as 'stroking' the school was my attempt as explaining how a newcomer to martial arts may see these people as true martial artist. They did excercise and they do have a long lasting business and that builds a reputation over time. This has nothing to do with whether they're a good gym or not, it just makes them appear as one.

As for the sparring thing, you are right and that's my bad. We did not allow head contact which is pretty bad when looking at it in hindsight so thank you for correcting me on that. If I could go back and edit my post I would (along with spell checking and fixing punctuation).

Anyway, I hope this can change things a bit. I don't want this community to be outright hostile to anyone because I think it's far more affective to tell someone off with evidence, sources and reasoning than saying "I doubt you have any martial arts skill" because it brings this notion that we are ok with directing attacks at someone specifically rather than their specific claims and faulty reasoning. I have a feeling this is just going to get another angry reply but I hope you can come to understand that I too want to see a wider awareness of shaolin-do's fraudulent system.

  26. The filthy liars begin and end here. This article is filth and it is disgusting. If you read this article understand that it’s ANONYMOUS author is simply attacking Sin Kwan The to promote another school. It’s dirty and cheap and all the accusations made here the author is actually guilty of. He is a charlatan and frankly is creepy to the extreme. I would study with Sin Kwan The at any of his schools and ignore the rage of this imposter.

This individual is filled with deep rage likely because he was rebuffed in some way and is seeking revenge.

Notice how he speaks of hating liars, because he deeply hates himself.

I studied at a Sin Kwan The school in my early twenties and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life I would highly recommend it to anybody. It will be greatly beneficial to you in every way.

Ignore this charlatan who is a coward of epic proportions and too scared to put his name where his big diseased mouth is.

    What a loser!

  30. I studied Shaolin-Do when I was very young and didn't really know that it wasn't authentic. Having said that, even back then, I wondered what The' actually knew. The katas we were taught didn't seem to have any application. And, by the way, I was never taught any applications to any of the katas I learned. Over the years, I convinced myself that it was probably "based" on some style of real martial art -- maybe something like Shorinji Kempo. Which, as I'm sure you probably know in Japanese means "Shaolin Temple Boxing", and is considered to be a modified version of Shaolin Kung Fu. I have to admit, when I read through the court documents from the Sin Kwang The vs Jacob Rydberg lawsuit I was truly shocked. I want to thank you for helping being this to light and I do agree with you. It doesn't bother me that The' invented some of this stuff, but it does bother me that he misrepresents what he's teaching to his students.
